"Add data" to chart menu command won't work

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel When I try to use the "Add data" command from the "Chart" menu, the "Add Data" window opens, but when I select the data range from the spreadsheet and click "OK," nothing happens; the chart doesn't show the new data line. Thanks for any suggestions.
