Adding Access to Office 2003 Small Business Edition

C

Chuck H.

My copy of Office 2003 Small Business Edition does not include the Access
Database Management package. Is there an official method for purchasing the
additional component? I would like to add this capability to my machine.

I didn't see a Web site in your post. Are you refering to Microsoft itself
or one of the Internet vendors? The price sounds about what I expected but
higher than I hoped.

Seems like I didn't do that quite right on the first try. So, here's a
second shot.

Besides my Office 2003 SB licensed copy, I also have an ancient licensed
copy of Microsoft Office Professional (on 31 floppy disks -- copyright
1993-94 -- Disk Assy 269-051-101) that did have Access as a component. Does
this ancient copy qualify me for an update? Or did I make a mistake on an
impulse buying decision when I picked up Office 2003 SB without looking for
an upgrade?

That sounds like a copy of Office 4.x and it does not qualify for the Access
Upgrade - Office 97 or later or Works 6 (7?) or later do qualify you for
upgrades. See this page for more accurate information:

Thank you Milly. I just came upstairs after finishing labeling about 1700
newsletters. Tomorrow I start adding postage. Thank heavens for
self-adhesive stamps!!!

Having Office 2003 small Business does not qualify you for an "upgrade".
that would actually be a crossgrade and Microsoft does not do crossgrades.
Good try but no kewpie doll tonight. ;-)

Their prices have jumped considerably since they first introduced the
service. The cheapest plan you can get right now is $7.99 per month. I
will be dropping them shortly. Plus, you need to pay for the stamp
templates as well. Buying the self-adhesive ones from the USPS is easier
and cheaper.

A follow up - the post office has not issued a 63¢ stamp yet so I have to
combine a 60¢ and a 3¢ stamp on each of those newsletters. We only do this
huge mailing once a year but this part of it is extremely labor intensive.
I've discussed the idea of allowing my printer to handle everything from the
printing to the mailing. He gave me a guestimate the other day and it may
cost us $50 or so more than we are paying now. By the time you add in the
cost of labels and an ink cartridge, it adds up to that $50. And there's
still the matter of the time. I need to put together a report to present to
the board for next month's executive board meeting. I want to make sure they
understand how much work is involved.

There was one cool aspect of this. I have an Avery "Quick Peel" automatic
label peeler and got to use it for the first time. It is so cool!!
http://www.avery.com/us/products/quickpeel/index.html?wtloc=poi I was
offered the chance to order it from Avery for the cost of shipping only so I
took advantage of the deal. It is so much easier to stick mailing labels on
the newsletters with this. How did I manage without one?? If I could just
get the post office to create one for sheets of stamps, life would be
perfect! :)
