Adding Auto Shapes within Text Box

I'm relatively new to Powerpoint..ALL text must be entered within a text box?
When I try to add an autoshape (arrow) it disappears when I exit that text
box..
Any ideas on making it "Stay?"

I responded to your previous question. Didn't notice this one.

I'm not sure I understand this question, though. You should be able to add
an autoshape, select it, and just start typing. So if my other response
didn't answer this question also, maybe you can rephrase?
