Adding items to Excel database? Possible?

I'm using a database link between my drawing and an excel file. (see
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/254591 for the basic thing I'm doing at the
bottom of the page).

Just like the tutorial says, I can ADD new items to the database by creating
a new shape in visio and giving it a unique primary key name. After doing
this, updating the database/saving, the new row appears in excel.

And I can update items in excel, and it will update i the visio drawing
after refreshing...

BUT... is there a way to ADD items in excel so that when I create a shape in
visio later and give it the new primary key name it will understand where the
data is coming from? When I try this it seems like the excel file doesn't
expand the length of the "table" so that row is left out.
