adding photos to booklet format

Andrea

Hi,

I am putting together a printed directory using Publisher
2002 and the booklet format. I want to be able to include
a photo alongside each person's name and address.

My booklet format is set up on a landscape layout and
initially I inserted a table per page with two columns.
One column contained the photos (in rows) and the other
contained the data. The problem that I kept running into
is that the photos seem to be on a different "layer" from
the data. Meaning if I need to add a new address in a row,
the corresponding photo in that row does not move down a
row with the data, but must be manually moved (along with
all successive photos). Could someone please tell me the
way to link up the photo with the text so that I can easily
move them as I would anything else in a table?

Thanks so much!

All objects have their own "layer", as you put it.
You can, however, align pictures in-line with the table.
Make sure the top-left corner of the picture is in the cell that you want
the picture to appear in
Right-click > Format Picture > Layout > In-line

Try this:
Place an image in the correct place in the table cell. Right-click on the
image, and choose Format Picture. Select the Layout Tab, and change the
Object Position from Exact to Inline.
Do this for each image, and they should be 'stuck' into each cell.

Depending on how many people you have to do, I would seriously recommend
Publisher 2003 which will automatically merge all the photos with
information to each page for you.

If you add or delete anybody, it would just be no issue at all to re-do the
booklet.

Publisher 2003 is due out next month and the beta version which is generally
trouble free may still be available.

That does sound really helpful, since I am going through
and reformatting each photo, ugh!

Sounds great, but the beta is no longer available (yeah I
checked and checked!) and I need to get this finished
before the new version shows up on the market. Rats!
Tempted by things that are not within my reach :)

I do have another question, now that I've got my photos and
text linked up in my table format, how do I get my table
to auto flow from page to page in the booklet format using
Publisher 2002?

Thanks once again!

Andrea, you don't.
In Publisher 2003 this would be a breeze job.
For Publisher 2003, there is this *EXCELLENT* freeware program that lists
all the picture files in a folder/directory and can be imported into a
database or spreadsheet to be merged with the picture and added information
into Publisher 2003.

If you get Publisher 2003, which I *HIGHLY* recommend with the added extras
from Brian K's webpage and you need any assistance with the options of that
utility in conjunction for use with Publisher 2003 don't hesitate to post
back here.

I am actually in the process of building a new website with the existing and
new Publisher 2003 tips and tricks. That LS program is already featured
with the correct options and settings along with how to do it all. Will be
about two weeks till I have the website finished.
