Not sure how to add a program to Quick Launch using Windows XP Pro

Right click, Open Folder or just drag things to where you want them. (If
you use Right click you have to make sure you are clicking on Quick Launch
and not one of the program icons.)

Right click the taskbar and ensure that Lock the Taskbar is not checked.

Find the program or shortcut to the program you want to put on the Quick
Launch Bar. To place the icon on the QLB left click and drag to the place
in the bar you want the final location to be. To copy to the QLB Right
click and drag to the same place and select copy. Resize the QLB by using
the vertical resize line to the right of the QLB and then Lock the Toolbar.

Thank you for your reply. I have a couple of follow-up questions:
What is the difference between using the "left click" method vs. the "right
click" method ?
Is it OK to apply one of the methods to the shortcut (I cannot find the
"executable") ?
No matter what method I use - will the icon come over? Will the little
arrow (indicating it is a shortcut) be par tof the icon (hopefully not - pet
peeve of mine)

Sorry for all the questions

What is the difference between using the "left click" method vs. the "right
click" method ?

Left click+drag moves the icon
Before: Icon on desktop
After: Icon in QLB
Right click+drag COPIES it
Before: Icon on desktop
After: Icon in QLB and on desktop
Is it OK to apply one of the methods to the shortcut (I cannot find the
"executable") ?
Yes

No matter what method I use - will the icon come over?
Yes

Will the little
arrow (indicating it is a shortcut) be par tof the icon (hopefully not - pet

No. At least not here.

You can't hurt anything by doing this. Play with it.

Steve, just for info, when I tried the left drag and drop into the quick
launch with a Vista Home Premium system, it copied the file and kept the
original still on the desktop. Don't know if this is local to this system
or across the board with Vista systems. Haven't tried it with my Vista
Ultimate laptop yet. XP handles just like you said.

Interesting. Same results as you on my Vista Business box.

Guess it's another one of those Microsoft Knows Best features.

My intention is for this to go to BOTH Steve and LVTravel - hopefully it is ...

First - THANK YOU both very much this has solved my little dilemma.
Interesting to note that in XP PRO the right click and drag moved the icon
off the desktop and onto QL and even prompted me to "move" or "copy". I
chose move to get the icon off the desktop. The left click method simply did
a copy.

Again may be local - but just thought I would pass it along.

It is, and you're very welcome. If I remember right, rightclick + drag does the
same here under XP/Pro. "Move or Copy?"

Pretty much the same as rightclick+dragging files/shortcuts to other locations.
