Adding resources to tasks in Project 2000

I can add work resources (people) to a task without problems as long as they
work 8 hours / day. The problem is, when I add a person who only works 2
hours / day the end date remains the same but the start date moves up months
(rather than starting in Jan 2006 it shows the task starting in Nov 2005).
The task should take less time to complete, not more. It also won't level
the workload so that each resource works the same number of days. Why is it
doing that?

Hi,

The task is expecting to work 8 hours, but the resource is only working for
2 hours in the day or .25 of the available time. The quickest way to
allocate this resource to that task is then to allocate it as .25 unit for 8
hours work.
