after scanning a doc to word how do I type in the spaces to answe.

Hello-

If the doc is scanned directly into Word, odds are you can't - at least not
without a fair amount of editing. You might have better luck using scanner
software meant to enable scanning of paper forms as usable electronic files.
Unfortunately it isn't cheap and there is still a certain amount of revision
required in most cases.

For something you are only going to use once or twice, it is far too much
trouble in Word. Your scanner may have come with software that does this. My
Paperport software has a form fill-in program with it.
