Allowing certain resources to work at weekend

Using Project 2000:

Standard Mon-Fri calendar for project.
Have set resource calendar for one specific resource to allow him to work
Saturdays also.

But when I try to enter task using only that resource to start on a
Saturday, then I get the error message saying that I must move to the next
working day (Monday) or change Saturday to a working day.
But if I do the latter then this alters the working week for all existing
tasks on the project (ie: including those that don't even use this resource)

Any ideas?

Hello TonyLon,

When you add a task to the project, it will be scheduled based upon
the Project calendar -- only allowing Monday through Friday working
days. However, if you assign a resource to the task whose calendar
has Saturdays as working days, the task should be scheduled for
Saturday -- assuming predecessor relationships will allow.

For example, you have two tasks -- A & B. Task A is scheduled to
end Friday night and is the predecessor (F to S) to Task B. By
default, Task B will be scheduled for Monday, the next working day
in the Project calendar. Assign a resource whose calendar says
Saturday is a working day, and the task will be scheduled to begin
on Saturday.

As a side note, try to enter a date into the start for a task will
set a Start No Earlier than constraint. As much as possible, avoid
entering dates.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
