Alphabetizing

In Word 2003, I have a long single list of last names that are not in any
particular order. I want to alphabetize them. Looking in Help, all I get
is sorting in tables. These are not in a table and I don't want them in
one. How can I do this?

The Sort command happens to be under the Table menu, but your names
don't have to be in a table. Each name should be on a separate line
though. Select the list of names, and click on Table | Sort.

Maybe the problem is that the list is actually names and then indented under
each a couple of spaces, their e-mail address. But I tried again (your
suggestion) and still got nothing but a long solid line down the left side
of the page and the names had disappeared; the same thing that happened to
me before I wrote to the NG. I have been trying to do the same thing (same
list) in WordPerfect and when I couldn't get it to work in MS Word, I tried
WP and it worked fine there! I'd like to be able to have it in Word too
though, since I might want to send it to other organization members who only
have Word.
