amalgamation of projects

andy

hope someone can advise,

I have several projects which run two seperate working calanders, older
version projects run at a 8 hr "day", and newer versions run at 7.4 hrs "day".
The way we work (rightly or wrongly) is to ask the resource to estimate the
duration in days how long the task will take. The resource would not be 100%
allocated over this duration.

I have been asked to change the 8hr day projects into the 7.4hr day
versions. the problem i have is that if i just use the newer calandar the day
duration length increases by 8%( the difference) as it assumes i need more
time.
Is there a simple way I can keep the same duration length.

hope this makes sense?

Hello everybody,

I'm afraid that the Fixed Duration setting will not be efficinet in this
case.
What I do : before making the changes in the project options, copy/paste all
the duration in a Text(x) field.
After the changes, copy/paste the Text field in the Duration column.
Hope this helps,

Point of clarification... we do it with fixed duration routinely.
However there is a catch... if the hours/day changes you will be changing
the amount of work based on the units% allocation. For us, we went to 9/80
work weeks and that caused an increase in our budgets with 9 hours per day.
It took us awhile to get back to "normal" by changing all the work calendars
to allow every other Friday off.

In either event, your total project picture will change based on the smaller
number of work hours in a day.

Thank you for the point Gerard. I need to be more "robust" with some of my
replies.
