Animate 2nd level in list

I have a list that looks something like this:

* xxxxxxxxxxxxx:
- xxxxxxxx;
- xxxxxxxx.
* xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.

I would like the animation to bring each level and line in separately but
can only get the major levels to come in separately. The 2nd level comes in
with the first level

Depending on the version of PowerPoint you have, the steps are a little
different. I will assume you have PPT 2002 or 2003 since you can't find it.
When you animate a textbox it appears in the timeline in the Custom
Animation taskpane to the right. Click the dropdown arrow for that textbox
and click either "Effects" or "Timings". The "Text Animation" TAB has a
dropdown to select the lowest level you want animated. In your case change
it to Level 2.

Hope that helps.

Hi Bill
Many thanks for your response and it was useful. The only problem I have is
that my company hasn't upgraded to Office 2003 (was expected earlier this
year but still hasn't happened) therefore we are still working with Office
97. I could get each line to animate separately if it had it's own text box
but that somehow seems to be a waste of time. Do you remember back to your 97
days?

I believe in the Custom Animation dialog box to the right there is a
"Introduce Text" section that will be enabled if you are using one of the
built-in bulleted textbox slide layout placeholders. All you have to do is
to animate your object and it will appear in the top left window. When you
click the Bulleted Text Box, the tool will be enabled.

What alarms me is that it is right there on the "Effect" TAB when you set
the animation. You should be able to see it. Can't you?????

Just to fill in a blank -- check the place in the "introduce text" section
where it says "group text by XX level paragraphs."

If the text isn't in a placeholder, that option is available in that
version. It was added later.If the text is in a placeholder, and it isn't
the title placeholder, then it should be available. :)

Hi Bill, many thanks for your follow-up. After I animate the text, it does
come up in the animation window and the "Introduce Text" box states "All at
once". I've tried setting it to "word" but then it comes up one word at a
time and all text on the slide appears one word at a time without any stops
before the next point. I've tried experimenting with everything there but I
really think I need to put each line in a separate text box to get the effect
I need.

Thank you so much for your assistance and I really hope our IT get Office
2003 installed asap.

Cheers
Chris

Hello everyone, I've found it with help from all of you. It was the "Grouped
by xx paragraphs" that was the problem. I had it set to "1st level
paragraph". I feel like such an idiot but my excuse is "This is the first
time I have used Powerpoint and I think I did OK for a first timer". Again,
thank you and hopefully, next time, I will be able to offer others the
assistance I have received.

Cheers and have a great weekend - especially to Bill.

Chris
