Any Office programs REALLY Slow opening files

Hi,

I just started having a problem today where whenever I use any of the MS
Office programs (Word, Excel, etc.), when I try to do any of file
dialogs (e.g., Open, Save As), it really takes a long time for the list
of files to appear. While it's doing this, the panel is blank, and it
says "0 files found so far".

I've checked, and I don't think I have Fast Find installed, and Fast
Save is unchecked in Options. I've tried renaming the Normal.dot, but
am still having the problem.

This is with Office 97 SR1.

Can anyone tell me what the problem is and how to fix it?

Thanks,
Jim

Hi,

In case anyone runs across this problem, I was able to solve it.

I noticed that a process named "spoolsv.exe" was taking up ~100% CPU.
After doing some research, I checked, and found a document stuck in my
printer queue (double-click on the printer to see this). I deleted the
document from the queue and rebooted, and now everything is back to
normal again.

Hi,

You're welcome. Also BTW, just for completeness, although I haven't
tried it, someone on the Win2K NG responded by suggesting that I could
have done:

net stop spooler
net start spooler

instead of rebooting the PC after deleting the document from the queue.
I think that there's also an spooler item in Services that I could have
stopped/started.
