Appending pages or text

Windows XP Home and Office 2003--

I need to append a page to a document ie: cover page to a fax or a fact
sheet to an article.
I can do the append but all the formatting of the appended item becomes
jumbled. Perhaps there is a method of locking the formatting??

In Word 2003, one solution might be to use the Paste Options button.
