Are .pst files automatically created?

I have reformatted my disk and need to restore my pst files and I can't find
a recent one?

Did you make backups before you reformatted? if not, the recent ones are
gone.

To answer the question - if you don't have a pst, outlook will make one for
you.

is hidden or just not there.

Copy your backup to Documents folder, presumably its called 'somename'.pst
Within Outlook, File>Open....browse to that location and open it
What you do then depends, you could, using data management designate that
data file as the default.

Hi Darlene--

When people can't find the AppData folder, it's hidden. I imagine what
you're looking for is C:\Users\"Darlene's
Profile"\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook and to get the AppData folder to
show do this:

Windows key + R or type run in the search box above start button in
XP/Vista/Win 7>type control folders in run box>View Tab>put radio button in
"show hidden files and folders and drives" and that should do the trick.
It's not necessary to take the check out of "Hide Protected Operating system
files and folders" because AppData isn't one of them.
