Assigning Resources for differing durations

Hi there. I am running a project for Software Development. I want to assign
4 developers to one task, but with one of them only working for 3 weeks of
the task and the others for 4 weeks. Is there a way of doing this without
splitting the task into separate ones?

Hi,

Yesy there is but I first want to stress that this seems a little
masochistic. They clearly ARE different tasks since you can identify each
guy's work so closely so why try to keep it as one task?
Don't think Project will make any sort of attempt to keep these assignments
together... But for a small exception in leveling, Project will hendlke
s-different assignlments on a task as if they were differnt tasks!

Concretely, assign the people normally and then in the Task Usage View
change the work of the 4th guy. His "duration" will be adjusted (at least if
the task type is teh default fixed units)

Hi TrinityGirl,

Sure thing, with a couple of assumptions. I assume you have created the
4 developers as separate resources (Developer 1, Developer 2, etc.)

Create the 4 week duration task. Split your screen (Window > Split) to
show the task form at the bottom. Assign all 4 developers but set the
work for the resource only working 3 weeks to 120 hours. The 3 other
developers will be assigned 160 hours of work, the other developer will
only work for the first 3 weeks.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Julie
