attachment paper clip

Some how the paper clip for attachments has gone missing
can anyone inform me as to how I lost it and how I can
get it back.

Where is it gone? In your message list?
Make sure the column is present. View-> Current View-> Customize Current
View-> button Fields and make sure Attachments is listed
