authentication errors

When sending mail I receive a "503 mail server requires authentication
error", with the authentication option turned on or off. I can send mail from
a different computer, I have upgraded from outlook 2000 to 2002 and both have
the same problem. I have turned my firewalls and AV software off but still
the same problem.
I'm running windows 2K and have been running with the same setup for about 3
years without problems.
Can anyone shed any light on what is becoming a very annoying problem.

error was due to outlook itself.
Removed all accounts, uninstall - reinstall and recreated all the accounts,
the problem is now resolved, thanks.
