auto cc

I just switched back to Entourage from mail. In both mail and
Thunderbird- they have a box you can check to auto cc or bc yourself
(or someone) for every message sent.

How can I do such as thing in Entourage? I played with outgoing rules
to forward all sent messages- but that ended up giving me 2 copies of
every message in my sent box.

thanks

You should be able to add a header to your account settings to
accomplish this. This will be an all or nothing change, which means all
messages will be CC'ed.

1. In Entourage 2004, select Tools --> Accounts --> <your E-mail account>.

2. Select Options.

3. In the Additional Headers section add:

Header Value
Cc (e-mail address removed)

4. Close and save your settings. Test with an E-mail to a third E-mail
address.

Hope this helps!

For the life of me, i can't understand why people do this. What is the
attraction to having every single message you send be sent right back
to yourself? Are you not aware that Entourage automatically stores
every message you send in the Sent Items folder? Why would you want a
duplicate of each message you send sent back to you?

Good question but easy answer- it allows one to archive all messages
on a different server/computer in case what you are using fails. I
have lost my send files multiple times. My sent files are actually
much more valuable to me than any other received email.

I see. I suppose that makes sense.

I guess more often than not, when i see someone copying themselves,
they are copying the same address they sent from, which seems like a
waste to me!

Another option is to try Paul Berkowitz's script.

First, install the Jon's Command's scripting addition (version 3 for OS X,
version 2 for OS 9) if you haven't already. It is freely available at the
author's website.
<http://www.seanet.com/~jonpugh/>

Then, get the "Add BCC or CC" script by Paul Berkowitz. It includes setup
and usage instructions. All you have to do is run the script whenever you
open a new message to add BCC recipients automatically.

Bill,

I tried your "header" suggestion but even though the emails show the header command at the receiving end, the command itself is not carried out. What I am trying to achieve is to send BCC of my emails sent on my laptop so that I can have copies in my main computer.

Sadly Jon's commands is not compatible with Intel based MACs and thus cannot run Paul Berkowitz's applescripts.

Any thoughts/suggestions?.

Regards, Christian.

Use an Automator action to add Bcc

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/ng_views/newmsg_bcc.html>

I don't see a way in Automator to do this with replies.

Diane,

Thank you for the reply but I am a newby to MAC and I haven't a clue how to create this automator action. I opened automator but there was no shortcut to create a new entourage (2004) message.

Just looked on Scriptbuilders <http://scriptbuilders.net/> and found these

Apple has lots of help with learning new features like Automator.

<http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304759>
<http://developer.apple.com/macosx/automator.html>

See this page for links like "Apple's Find Out How videos" and tips:

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/new2mac/index.html>

Entourage 2004 has limited Automator actions. Entourage 2008 has lots of
actions. Sorry about the confusion. Whenever you ask a question about any
Office application, you need to include the version info. Often the answers
are different.

You can download a script that gives you the info.

I'll be posting a new script for 2008 soon.

I can't find your original message, but does your provider support IMAP?
That's the ideal solution for people who use multiple computers to access
their email.

Diane, thank you. I am looking at the scrips to see if I can get the thing going.

Adam, I have IMAP but I have resisted so fat to use it. I'll investigate some more to see if it is suitable, however, am U correct in understanding that if I delete a message in the IMAP server, I also loose it in my computer?. I don't want to use the IMAP server for storage of emails.

Why not? That's what it's designed for. It takes some getting-used-to if
you've been doing POP all these years, but once you accept the concept it
can be quite liberating.

Messages that you intend to archive for long term can certainly be moved
into local folders "On My Computer" and kept there. You can even use a rule
on your main computer to do this automatically.

Trust me, it will make life much easier than trying to manage your email by
CCing yourself.

J

Jason Berk

Just use the rules and use redirect. Your sent items will show duplicates,
but it works like a charm to send a copy of every message you send to another
mail account. Not as elegant as "auto bcc" which is available for Outlook,
but regardless works.

Diane,

If you read this, I have posted a bug (and the solution) I have found in Entourage 2008 time zones. If you do not see my post in the forum (under "calendar time off" and "Appointments not showing the correct time in Entourage 2008") please send me an email to (e-mail address removed) so that I can explain the whole issue.
