Hello Ron,

Take a look at appendix F (starting on page 201) in some notes on the way I
use Word for the Mac, titled "Bend Word to Your Will", which are available
as a free download from the Word MVPs' website
(http://word.mvps.org/Mac/Bend/BendWordToYourWill.html).

[Note: "Bend Word to your will" is designed to be used electronically and
most subjects are self-contained dictionary-style entries. If you decide to
read more widely than the item I've referred to, it's important to read the
front end of the document -- especially pages 3 and 5 -- so you can select
some Word settings that will allow you to use the document effectively.]

Cheers,

I need a way to capitalize proper names in a word text. For example- the words dale, or glen, can be a small valley etc. but I want to add them to a dictionary as proper names. ???
Thanks

If you add words to the Custom Dictionary all in lower-case, the spelling
checker will accept "any" capitalisation, including all lower-case.

If you add the words with mixed case (capitalised) then the spelling checker
will accept only the capitalisation you specify.

However, that won't solve your problem, because the words are already in the
MAIN Dictionary. There is a bug in Word 2008 spelling that means that the
Exclusion Dictionary doesn't work, so you cannot get them out.

So for proper nouns that are also ordinary nouns, they will be accepted in
any capitalisation.

You could add them to the AutoCorrect List with a preferred capitalisation
as a replacement. That means the words will always be capitalised when you
type them. You can use Command + z to "undo" the replacement if you want
the words used without capitals.

That's as close as you can come.

Cheers

The above message is for working with - Word 2008 for Mac.
Thanks, Bob
