auto update auto text

Is there a way to get Autotext to update whenever a
change is made? For example, I would like the file
name/path to change whenever I do a save as rather than
take the step of hitting F9.

That has nothing to do with updating AutoText (which would be relevant if
you were using an AutoText field) but with updating the underlying field,
which in this case is a FILENAME field. See "The FILENAME field does not

Eric:

I was able to auto update such things as path and filename when I had my old
PC with Word 2000 on Windows 2000. I just got a new computer which is
running Word 2003 on XP and I can't get it to auto update anymore! It is
very frustrating, as this is the whole point of using the auto insert fields!
If anyone figures out how to do this, I would love to know!
