Automated response?

Hello,
Just wondering if there is any way to have a mailbox
send a response to all "original" emails. What I'd like
ideally is for Outlook (or Exchange) to identify
new "conversations" and send out a specific email. Is
that possible? If not, what are my alternatives? Just the
out of office agent?
