automatic send/recieve

Just switched to Microsoft Outlook 97 from OE. When I
press 'Send' nothing happens until I go into 'Tools'
and 'Check for New Mail". Surely this is not necessary?
Similarly it does not automatically check for mail when
the program opens. What do I need to do? Thanks Dominic

You need to post your mail account type and connection type so someone can
answer you.

not sure what you mean by account type? Just usual with
Servers-outgoing mail SMTP; incoming POP 3??

re. Connection type- I have checked the "I use a modem to
access my email".
Is this correct?

In Tools/Options/Internet-email I have also checked the
box "check for new messages every 10 mins". But this is
not happening automatically either.

Help please

Your connection type must be set to LAN for Outlook 97 to dial
automatically, even if you are using a dial up connection.
