Baseline problem in Project Professional 2003

Gilgamesh

Hi,
I've just come across this and was wondering if it was a known bug.

I created a project baseline in Baseline1 so when I look at this in the
resource sheet view it has valid values and they are timephased in the
resource usage view.
However, after I save the schedule, closedown MS Project and reopen the
schedule all of the baseline1 information from the resource view is missing.
It is however still there in the timephased values in resource usage view.

I have tried this on other baselineX fields and the only one that is
retained is baseline

I have also tried this is Project Pro 2007 but the problem does not occur
there.

Thanks

Hello Gilgamesh,

What service pack do you have applied to Project 2003? There were some
problems with baseline data that I believe were solved with Service Pack
2.

If you have SP-2 installed, what baseline1 data (Baseline1 Work,
Baseline1 Cost, etc.) is not visible added to the Resource Sheet?

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Hello Julie,
I have SP2 installed. I am trying to get Work and Cost from Baseline1,
I have also tried Baseline3 and baseline10 with the same result. These
appear when I create the baseline but once I save, close, and reopen the
schedule they have disappeared.

Thanks

Hi Gilgamesh

As I noted, I cannot recreate what you are reporting. When I save
multiple baselines (baseline1, baseline 2, etc.) the data remains in
the fields without difficulty.

Is this occurring only in a single file? If you create a new project
drop in tasks and then save baselineX data does it stay in the file?

If it does I think we can safely say something is amiss with the
specific project file and that file may be mildly corrupt. I suggest
trying some of the options on a copy of the file outlined in FAQ #43 at:
http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm. I have also had some success saving
Project 2003 files as XML and then re-importing the data back into
Project. I do not suggest saving Project 2007 files as XML as there
have been some reports of problems XML files in 2007.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Hi Julie,
This happens on multiple files. It would seem that something is messed
up with my project installation.
Thanks anyway

Hi Gilgamesh,

Assuming you are using Project 2002/2003 try Help > Detect and Repair to
see if that helps.

Another method that *may* help would be to exit Project, find the copy
of Global.mpt that is in your user directory, rename it to something
like oldglobal.mpt and then re-start Project. This will recreate the
global template. *** Recreating global will remove all customization
stored in global so if there are custom views etc, they will not appear.
Before copying customized features back to the new global, check and see
if the problem is resolved.

I hope this helps.
