blank doc-retrieve data

Although the one page doc file is 39kb, it appears as a
blank page, how can I retrieve/view the file?

At 39k it is probably an empty file.
Try opening it in Notepad or Word using "Recover text from any file" and see
if you can find something that makes sense.
