"Blank" Excel files

If I launch an Excel file when the program is not running, the Excel file is "blank". I don't see any tabs in the spreadsheet nor any data. It's just a white screen. However, when I move the mouse around or use the keyboard to move around the spreadsheet, I can see from the formula bar that all of the formulas and values are there.

If I'm running Excel and I double click on that same file, it opens and the data/formulas are visible.

The only solution I've found that works to solve the problem is to select View, Arrange All.

How can I avoid this problem in the future?
