Blocking text

I block text for cutting or copying by left-clicking on
my mouse and holding it down. But if I want to cut or
copy a large amount of text over a page in a very long
document, the document "runs away with me" and I find I'm
many pages down before I can stop it.

There is a way to avoid this and I have been told but
I've forgotten! Can anyone help?

You could left click once at the beginning of the block of text you want
to select, then scroll down or page down, and Shift+left click at the
end of the block of text to select the block.
