broken links when I move source files

I am in the process of migrating (from Pagemaker) a large quarterly financial
publication over to Microsoft Publisher (2003). I painstakingly redid all
the text and linked all the excel files in the new Publisher doc and
everything worked fine for the current quarter. The problem is that when I
copied everything to a new folder for the next quarter and then attempt (in
the new folder) to click on the links in the Publisher file, Publisher says
that it cannot locate the links even though the file names stay the same.
When I check the names in the links sources, they have strange extensions
after them like RC02!001 etc. It seems as though Publisher automatically
adds on a cell reference to each source file spreadsheet. I had thought that
like Pagemaker, the files would be in a “relative link†situation but
apparently not. Is there any way to get around this absolute link problem?
Thanks!
