Calculate work and estimate duration

Niklas

Hi
I think I have tried all possible ways doing this calculation, but I think I
have missed something....
I have a task which will I have estimted to be 200 hours. I have 3 resources
which are availeble. Resource1 = 65%, resource2 = 50% and resourse3 = 25%. I
also know the start date. By enetering this date I want MsPropject2003 to
calculate duration, 200/(6.5+5+2.5) = 14.29 days, and give each resource
their part of the work each day (Resourse1 = 6.5 hours/day etc, the last day
will bee evenly distributed). How do I do it?

Hi again
I was to quick posting this message, so some errors came along. The
calculated duration should be 17.86 days. A working say is 8 hous and not 10.
200/(5.2+4+2) = 17.86. This mean that Resourse 1 is working 5.2 hours per day
and resourse 4 hours per dad and so on.

Hi Niklas,

Create the task as an effort-driven, fixed unit task. Split the screen
to show the task form at the bottom (Window Split).

Assign Resource #1 and specify 65% units and 200 hours of work. Click
OK in the task form and Project will calculate the duration as 38.46
days.

Add Resource #2 to the task form underneath Resource #1 and specify 50%
assignment units. Click OK in the task form and Project will
recalculate the duration of 21.74d. Resource #1 will now have 113.05
hours of work and Resource #2 will have 86.95 hour of work.

Add Resource #3 to the task form underneath Resource #2 and specify 25%
assignment units. Click OK in the task form and Project will
recalculate the duration to 17.86 days. Resource #1 will have 92.85
hours of work, Resource #2 will have 71.43 hours of work and Resource #3
will have 35.72 hours of work.

[Note: If the resource's maximum units are set to 65%, 50%, and 25%,
you will not need to manually enter the resource assignment units.
Project will assign at maximum for each resource]

In the Resource Usage view you will see the following Work distributions
assuming the task starts at 08:00 and the working time is defined as
08:00 to 17:00

Resource #1:
5.2 hours per day for 17 days and 4.45 hours on the 18th day

Resource #2
4 hours per day for 17 days and 3.42 hours on the 18th day

Resource #3
2 hours per day for 17 days and 1.72 hours on the 18th day.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
