calculating duration

Anita

If I have a task that is 6 days with two people doing it, I add two people
and it changes the number of days to 4.5 (when I choose the smart tage
option), I thought it would change it to 3 (double the people, half the time)
- I know that's probably the same as
saying effort driven, but I adjusted it using the smart tag option. Just
can't see why it has changed to 4.5 from 6. Can you shed any light? (default
task type is fixed duration)

Thanks

Hi Anita,

"The smart tag option"?
The smart tag lets you select any of several options.
To do what you wnt
Double-click the task to show Task Information window
Select Advanced
Set task type to Fixed Units, effort driven.
Now add the two resources to the task.

Project will not change durations if you set the task type to fixed
duration.

Are both resources assigned 100%? When you add a second person to an effort
driven task the WORK is divided equally between them. If one of them is
assigned at a lower percentage than the other it will take him longer to do
his portion of the work than it does the other. The resulting duration of
the task is the length of time it takes the slower of the the two resources
to do his half of the work.
