Calendar Changes from Resources

Clark Menard

I have a question about a resource sending a working time
change to a manager.

Lets say the worker wants to change a future date to non-
working time. He makes the change in Web Access and it
sends a notice to the Manager.

The manager sees he has an update and clicks the link to
review the update. If the manager clicks the update
button to except the change, it asks for a project to open.

Questions:

1) Why wouldn't this update span all projects that the
resource is assigned tasks?

2) I've individually opened and saved each of the
available projects and they note that no assignments have
changed. When I return to web access I still have the
change request on the home page. How do I eliminate this
request?

Any help would be appreciated!

Clark:

In most cases, when a resource does this, it's because the resource will be
unavailable for that time span. That's the intuitive approach.
Unfortunately, when Project Web Access states "notify a manager" it means
just that. This doesn't make the resource unavailable across the system,
only in the plan that manager selects. This is like saying, I'm not
available to work for you because so-and-so has got me doing something else.
Therefore, you should train your users that they must notify all the project
managers whose projects are affected. Frankly, I discourage use of this
feature because of the confusion. As the recipient of the message, you might
have chosen to update the resource calendar in the Resource Pool, instead of
the individual plans, where one change would then apply across all projects
in the system.

What change request are you seeing?

Thanks for your reply, I'll review the resource calendar
adjustment to see how it fits our requirements. As for
the change request, I was still seeing the original
request to change non-working time. I realized that
rather than the "approval" process that removes task
changes from the list, I needed to delete these
specifically.
