Can I load Office on to my laptop?

I just bought a brand new laptop and I have a desktop that is older. I was
sent the software for the desktop when I bought it. Now I am looking at
putting Microsoft Office on my laptop. Can I legally use the edition that I
bought before and put that on the new computer?

Yes, provided that a) youre the only user of that laptop and b) it is not an
OEM (preinstalled) copy.

This applies for versions Office XP and Office 2003

I want to make exactly clear, but when you mean OEM, does that mean that if
Dell put the software on the system it is an OEM and therefore I can't
install it on my laptop?

Thanks!

That is correct!

I probably should mention that it is Microsoft Office XP Professional with
Publisher just so everyone knows it is not 2003.

Thanks!

That doesn't matter. The thing it depends on is whether or not you bought it
separately or if it came pre-installed on another computer.
