Can I make a building a resource?

Sorry for the silly question, but I'm a new user to Project and I could use
some help. Imagine you have 100 buildings, scattered across the town. Can you
name a building a resource? Can you link information to the file like a
location or a picture? Can the resources belong to diffent groups - brick or
wood? metal roofs or tile? can i set it's schedule to 24/7 w/out affecting
the reminder of the resources?

Any help would be appreciated....

I have only 15 buildings - not 100, but still the idea is the same.

Thanks

Hi rail_lady,

Yes, you can create a building as a resource. You have two choices of
resource type: work or material. If you view the Resource Sheet, you will
be able to see the type field and can select the appropriate type. You can
also enter the group (brick, wood, etc.) for each building on the Resource
Sheet.

As an aside, I know it sounds a bit odd to think of a building as a work
resource, but if your intent is to make sure that a building resource is not
used for multiple tasks occurring simultaneously (overallocated) or if you
need to declare the building as not available for a certain time
(non-working time in the resource's calendar), you will need to create the
building as a work resource. Material resources are unlimited and have no
calendars. So in your example of a schedule of 24/7, the building will need
to be of the work type. Once you have created the building resource, select
the 24-Hours calendar as the base calendar for the resource in the Resource
Sheet.

You may certainly create hyperlinks in the resource sheet for the building
to an image file or any other type of file you need.

Do be careful assigning the building resource to tasks however. If the task
is an effort-driven task (the default) and the building is assigned after
other resources, you will see work on the task stay stable and usually the
duration of the task will decrease.

Hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Thanks, JulieS! I'll let you know how this works - I'm using MSP for the
first time to try to build a rail line. I'll let you know how it goes.
Thanks for the link.
