can I save Word files in pdf format?

I'm trying to get Word tables into a PageMaker file. Is transferring them as
pdf the way to go?

They've also been saved as png files, using SnagIt, but the text looks
jaggy. Is png better than pdf?

What is the best way to solve this? The final output will be on a printing
press, so the text has to be of whatever resolution a printing company
requires.
