pdf import poor resolution

R

Richard McBride

Hi all

I am importing pdf files into my Publisher 2007 document. The pdf files look
great when I view them in Acrobat, and print just fine when I print them from
Acrobat. But when I import them into Publisher I seem to be getting a lower
resolution version. Graphics are choppy and text is fuzzy.

Is there a way to get Publisher to print the actual imported pdf rather than
this lower resolution version?

Thanks

Richard

Maybe the following article would be worth a look:

Hi John

I saw that article. It's a rather convoluted approach. In addition I was
wondering if it really applied. For example it starts with "As you may well
know, Publisher cannot directly import PDF files." If Publisher cannot
directly import PDF files, then what am I seeing when I import a PDF file
into my publisher document?

If I am simply seeing the tiff header, then what I really need to do is
publish pdf files with a high resolution tiff header. If Publisher 2007 has
some crippled ability to import pdf files, then what I really need to do is
save the files in some form OTHER than pdf.

Does Publisher properly import pdf files, or is is a kludge with the tiff
header that I am getting imported? It's a bit frustrating.

Thanks

Richard

Hi John

I would like to apologize for my agressive response. My frustration is
showing. This is the first major project that I've done with Publisher and I
have really been struggling with the limitations. I have done extensive work
in Corel Ventura but of course it has gone the way of the dodo bird (or at
least Word Perfect).

Since there is no Vista support for Ventura I wanted to look at a different
tool. But it looks like Publisher just doesn't have the oomph for the real
heavy lifting in document layout and design.

Thanks

Richard

No problem...but just so you know...we are all
volunteers here. We have no idea what you have
already tried or what your level of computer skills
may be.

It's not unusual for computer software to offer
different options than the ones we can dream
up in our own imagination.

And BTW...Ed Bennett, the author of the article
I posted for you...knows what he is talking about.

Maybe someone else will offer a better answer
for you.

When you import any unsupported filetype into Publisher through Insert >
Object, what you get is an OLE object. What this is is entirely up to
the OLE Server - probably Acrobat/Reader in this case. It isn't under
Publisher's control at all. Possibilities seen in this group range from
no support at all (just a PDF icon appearing instead) up to
full-resolution support. I've not spotted any correlation between the
outcome and other factors. The only way to RELIABLY import PDFs into
Publisher is to convert them to a supported image format rather than
relying on OLE objects.

WordPerfect is still alive and well, thank you very much.
