Can I scan picture negatives and print positives pictures?

F

flacopaco

I have a pile of old - REALLY old - brownie box camera negatives that I
cannot get made into prints without giving up my first born child - which I
refuse to do! These are all pictures from my family and my childhood. Does
anyone have any idea on how I can scan these negs and print out positive
prints? I am using an HP psc 2210 all-in-one scanner and Windows XP Office
2003 programs.

Thank you.

I've never tried this, but the program "Paint" has an 'invert colors'
selection that may work

You might check to see if the scanning software has the option to invert the
colors; mine does.

Some printers are designed to scan negatives. You'd have to read the manual
that came with your scanner to see if you can do this. If not, find a local
photo service.

Some scanners have carriers designed for negatives (mine does), but they may
not accommodate Brownie negatives. Mine has carriers only for 35mm strips
and 35mm slides. Not to mention that this requires a separate attachment to
the scanner (with a light on top rather than underneath). It's unlikely that
an all-in-one will have such an attachment. But my TWAIN software does have
an Invert Colors selection.

My other scanner has the light in the top but not my all-in-one. I don't
know if any do but it wouldn't surprise me if they exist. I can't see how
you could scan in a negative without the light on top. Seems to me that
would create a very dark file but it's worth trying.

I agree it's not likely to be satisfactory, though I haven't tried it. My
scanner lid does at least have a white background (my first one had black),
which would help some.

There are HORDES of locale prfessionals that (even via snail mail) that
will do this very reasonable priced.
In the event somebody has quoted a price which approaches an unborn child,
I'd suggest you cease all business dealings with them.

This website has existed for more than fifteen years and is an excellent
tutorial.
Each and every SECOND you spend reading here will save your DAYS and WEEKS
in learning-understanding scanning procedures.

In addition there ia an NG dedicated to scanning:
