Can I turn off duration?

Mitch C

I am using Project 98 as a calendaring tool consolidating several projects.
When I look at the consolidated calendar, it shows a duration time between
individual events on the calendar which I don't want calculated or seen. Can
I turn off the duration element?

That's gonna be hard to do since Project uses duration as one of its
fundmental metrics. It's not a calendaring tool, it's a schedule calculating
tool, and without duration it doesn't have any data to work with. You may
be trying to push a square peg down a round hole in your application. But
your post is hard to decipher as to what you're actually trying to do. Are
you looking at tasks, that is to say, activities done by resources that
extend over time, and you don't want to see how long they take, or are you
looking at milestones, instantaneous events that take place at specific
dates and times, and you don't want to see how much time passes between
them?

The latter - instantaneous events that take place at specific
dates and times, and I don't want to see how much time passes between
them.

So just how do you propose to show points on a calendar timeline without
showing the time between them? If I lay a ruler down on the desk and make a
mark next to 1 inch and another mark next to 6 inches, doesn't that kind of
mandate that a gap of 5 inches be shown between the two marks?

I don't mean to sound facetious but if all you need is a list of event names
and their dates, what's the point of using an expensive tool like Project
since Excel or even any simple word processor capable of a two column table
will do that?

I am managing several marketing events and need a dynamic way to enter new
events without having to insert new rows in an excel sheet. I planned to
create a separate project for each marketing events and then consolidate them
into one overall project; that way I can still view each one and enter new
events individually but have a rollup of everything. I've been playing
around with this in Project and for the most part it works except for showing
the duration between individual events on the rollup calendar which I don't
want to see.

Mitch,
Could you send me a print screen of your plan and explain which data you
need to hide?
Gérard

Remove this and that in my email address.
