Can not highlight text or move cursor using touch pad in WORD 2007

Have upgraded to OFFICE 2007 - Highlighting text and clicking on text are not
active on my WORD 2007 - though they are on - and functoning in EXCEL and
OUTLOOK. I need to turn on this core function in WORD. Not being able to cut
or copy and paste or highlight text (for underlining or other treatment or
move the cursor using the touch pad are very significant problems. I can NOT
find any help or directions on how to turn on this function or correct this
shortcoming. I have uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times - to no avail.
HELP.... Please. Thank you.

That kind of defect usually is the result of a faulty installation, and
often directly caused by one of the following:

1. Corrupt registry entries.

2. Corrupt normal.dotm and normal.dot.

3. Malfunctioning add-ins.

The following article, its name notwithstanding, contains troubleshooting
and remedial steps you can take. Ignore the name of the article, as the
steps shown apply to numerous other problems, as well:
