Cannot get Word to open

I cannot get Word to open. When clicking the icon, I get the hour glass and it freezes and then I get the low resource error message. I delted Word and reinstalled it, and it still does the same thing
I have tried opening exisiting Word documents, and the same thing happens
I have run scan disk and no errors. I have run virus program, and no virus
Any advice? This one has me puzzled. I dont want to reinstall Windows ME, but am thinking maybe there is a missing file causing this
