Cannot move or delete email items from inbox

J

Jeffery

I am unable to move emails from the inbox folder to the delete folder (or any
other folder). When I try to I get a pop up box message that says: "Can't
move the items".

When I try to delete items from the inbox folder I get a message: "The
messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists,
resatrt outlook."

If I go back to the "deleted items" folder, I can permanently delete an item
and then return to the inbox folder and do a delete. But after that one
delete I again get the "messaging interface" message.

I've tried getting out of outlook and back in and doing a repair of outlook
with no help. Any other suggestions on how to correct this problem??

What version of Outlook are you using and how big is your .PST file?

Thanks, that worked for me too! Pretty simple solution. I don't know why
Microsoft doesn't make that clear on their troubleshooting site.

How did it work? Would you please share it with me? I am suffering from the
same error!

Thanks

What worked for John T. was the emptying of his Deleted Items folder.

Wat you said was that you were suffering with the same problem John T. had.
I copied youtr exact message. If you don't remember what it said, go read
it again. John T.'s problem was fixed by emptying the Deleted Items
folder. If that doesn't work for you then you _don't_ have "the same"
error.

I have a similar problem to John. I can delete newer messages from my Inbox,
but not those over about 11 months old. I can delete messages from all other
folders without problems.

I'd be very grateful for any advice. Emptying my "deleted items" folder
didn't help.

What happens when you try?

I have the same problem in attempting to delete messages or to move them to
the Delete folder. This folder is empty. I have attempted to delete this
folder but the option to do so is greyed out and the delete key/button does
not work. The error message states memory is full

I'm having the same problem can not move items from one folder to another.
If I try to delete a message comes up somethings like this "Message interface
returned an unknown error. If problem persists restart Outlook". Of course
when restarting Outlook, it comes up with the same problem.

I've also found out that I had 3 messages in my outbox and they were not
completed (sent). But one of the intended receiptents stated he has rec'd
hundreds of messages about what is in the outbox (identical).

Please help!

Nothing is working at this time, even restarting does not help.

You'll have to post more information because you made this a new message
instead of continuing in the same thread and I have no context for what you
said before.

Be precise as to the symptoms, include your Outlook version and account
type, exactly what you're trying to do, what happens when you try it, the
exact text of any errors that appear, and what you've done so far in an
attempt to fix it.

Brian:

Sorry about that. I found out the problem. The .pst file was over
1800 gig. So I established a new file and moved some of the data to it and
lowered the capacity of the .pst file and it is now working. I read
something about this on another's reesponse somewhere here.

Thank You for your help, I'm sure there'll be other issues--

You're lucky. Many PSTs that exceed their limit become unusable. You
caught it in time.

I just found this thread today -

I, also, cannot delete messages from my inbox or outbox.

I do not know what a .pst file is or where to locate it...

The specific text I get is: The messageing interface has returned an
unknow error.
If the problem persists, restart outlook.

I am running outlook in office XP.

Thanks

Dave
