I just upgraded my NT 4.0 server from Office 97 to Office XP. (I used a .mst file created using the Custom Installation Wizard. The only thing out of the ordinary that I selected in the creation of this file was the removal of older version of Office.)
Prior to applying all Office XP patches:
The Administrator account could not directly open a Word, Excel, or Access file. Double-clicking on a Word file (created with Office XP, by, in that account) in Windows Explorer resulted in the message "Cannot find the file 'C:\Test.doc' (or one of its components). Make sure that the path and the filename are correct and that all required libraries are available."
Any non-Administrative users received the same error message.
Following application of all Office XP patches (through post-SP2):
The Administrator account can now directly open a Word, Excel, or Access file.
Any non-Administrative users still received the original error message.
Does anyone know why this is and how I can correct it?
