Cannot open file

I spent the best part of an afternoon editing some maps, yet Publisher 2003
kept stalling towards the end. It got to the point where I was saving it
after every change but the reason it was stalling was because it was too big!
I sent it to a different (read better) computer but even with the extra
memory and swap file size, it couldn't open it. What I would like to do is
convert the .pub to a .jpg, then finish my edit using the (hopefully much
smaller) .jpg, rather than start the whole damn thing over. Is there a way
to convert a .pub file WITHOUT opening it in Publisher? Would Publisher 2007
be able to open the file?

Publisher 2007 will open 2003 publications. Sounds to me you have some
corruption going on. Did you ever try saving the file with a different name?
Have you looked in your temporary folder on the off chance Publisher saved a
temp copy?
Type %temp% in the address bar of Windows Explorer. Look for any file that has a
pub prefix. Change the .tmp to .pub, cross your fingers and try opening it.
