Cannot resize a basic shape

Craig

Hi,
I am using visio 2003. I added a basic rectangle shape to a visio file sent
to me by a colleague. I cannot resize the shape. In fact, it seems I cannot
resize any shapes in this file. When I select a shape, there are small X s
where the handles would be. When I select one of the X s, it becomes pink,
and I can't use it to resize.

When I create a brand new visio file and add the same shape, handles are
available, so I am thinking that it is something file specific. Any ideas? It
would be very helpful if I could edit the shapes in the file sent to me,
rather than starting from scratch.
Thank you,
Craig

These could be a lot of things in the shapesheet
In section miscallenous there is :
NoObjHandles
NoCtrlHandles
NoAlignBox

Further a formula might be replaced with a constant value.

And there is also the Menu Format Protection.(as far is this is not the same)

I am a new user. What menu options do I select to check these things. I do
not see an option for a "shapesheet" anywhere.

Sorry,
first you should do it simple with selecting the shape, right click, Format,
Protection.

I think that will work, without doing the same things in the Shapesheet. To
see the Shapesheet, you have to run in Developer Mode = Tools, Options,
Advanced.

If you are seeing a bunch of blue x's then it is likely that the Connection
Point tool is active. Try switching back to the Pointer Tool for regular
operations. The Pointer Tool is listed in the Standard toolbar, or you can
press Ctrl+0.
