can't create backup email file

(Win98) I have created a backup file for email for my
outlook express, but the files saved have outlook symbols
and not outlook express symbols.
When I try to open them a box temporarily appears to
say 'opening in Word' and then what looks like a blank
email message box appears - with an attachment. Non of the
content of the email appear.
If I open the attachment, the same box appears over the
top, with an attachment. If I open that.....etc etc.

How do I save my e-mails as outlook express files or how
do I convert the current saved outlook files into readable
outlook express files.

p.s. They don't have to be outlook express files, I just
want to be able to read them/save them.

Thank you
Chris

All your Outlook Express data should be stored under
\Windows\Application Data\Identities\.. . Search your
computer for Inbox.dbx and you should find this folder.
Copy the Inbox file to another disk and you can keep this
as a backup. It is a good idea to backup your .wab
address book file as well.
