Can't Delete Side Panel

I have Word 2003. Now when I open word there is a panal
on the left side that show a preview of my document or
even a blank page. I don't know what to do to get rid of
it. Please help. thank you

View | Thumbnails. Just closing Word without thumbnails displayed should do
