Hi,
After using Project Server 2002 and Project Professional 2002 for a couple
of years (both are on SP1) we have been suffering from the following problem:
I can view a list of projects via PWA, but when I try to open one of them
the "Microsoft Project Server Security Login" dialog box hangs. I have two
options for dealing with this:
1) Click cancel and choose an account when shown the "Microsoft Project
Server Accounts" dialog
2) Click cancel and then click cancel again in the "Microsoft Project Server
Accounts" dialog
If I do the former I can launch Project but I get an error from PWA "The
project could not be opened in Microsoft project\n\nMicrosoft Project is
currently running under a profile....."
If I do the latter I get this error from PWA: "The project could not be
opened in Microsoft project\n\nMicrosoft Project failed to open because it
has been closed down...."
Other bits of evidence that might help diagnose the cause or eliminate other
causes:
1) SQL Server is using mixed security
2) Project server is using Windows Authentication
3) I can connect to Project Server from Project Professional, open projects,
edit them, save them etc.
4) I used to have a single account configured, which was "My Computer",
which worked for the first couple of years. Since having this problem I have
added second, personal account which is the one I use to connect to Project
Server from Project Professional.
5) The project server domain is in the list of trusted accounts
6) Switching off the Windows firewall on the client makes no difference
7) Rebotting the clients and server makes no difference
8) Both client and server are on MDAC 2.8
9) Reinstalling project pro has made no difference, but I don't want to have
to re-install Project Server if I can help it
I'm sure the answer to this is obvious, but I just can't see it.
I suspect it is due to some login activity happening behind the scenes
involving the ActiveX components that is failing but not reporting the error.
I also suspect that it will be a straightforward security problem, but how do
I find out what it is? I suppose I could capture network packets to see what
is going on, but I hope it won't come to that.
Any suggestions?
Jonathan
