Capturing the Year and Month in a date data type field

I need to create 2 date data type fields; one that will contains the year of
the finish date of the task and the other that contains the month of the
finish date of the task. I know i can do this is a number or text field, but
can it be done in a date field?

No, that's not possible : the Date(x) fields demand a date format complying
with the date formats managed by Project.
