How do I stop the cell color from automatically changing color? Eg, if I change the fill color to green for one cell, when I type in the cell below (which has no fill color), when I hit enter, the cell color will change to green. How do I make this stop?

thanks,
Audrey

Hi Audrey;

That feature is controlled in Excel> Preferences - Edit, "Extend data range
formats & formulas". You can clear the check, but before you do point to the
item & read the description at the bottom of the Preferences pane... You may
not want to give up the other conveniences it provides.

Instead, you might consider doing your formatting *after* entering data. Or
if there is a specific reason for the fill color you might investigate
Conditional Formatting rather than directly applying the fill color.
