cell selection problem - won't redraw properly

I just encountered a screen redraw problem with simply selecting columns.
Excel wouldn't redraw the area in spite of repeated re-selection. I took a
screenshot and switched windows to post it and when I switched back, the
redraw executing properly, so whatever it was resolved when the window went
from active to inactive and back to active again.

Only thing I've done lately is upgrade to latest video driver by Invidia for
my GeForce4800Ti (I was waaay overdue for that).

(I did that at the suggestion of someone that it could be related to
problems trying to make a PDF with notes pages in PPT2007

When I first installed excel2007 I got problems with it dropping pieces of
charts all over the page, every time I made a chart, and I couldn't clean
them up. Posted that here:

A repair install reduced the frequency of that issue, but redrawing still
seems a bit dicey for a package that is supposed to retail for a kajillion
dollars. Luckily I am a starving grad student so it only cost me $59.
Ultimate steal is right, but I'm still not sure who did the stealing...

I'm not thrilled with this version of office. Skeptical of the alleged UI
improvement of the ribbon functionality, since I am constantly having to
switch back from some auto-selected submenu to access a feature on the "home"
ribbon. And what the heck? why did they have to change all of the hotkey
combos?!

"You will have a classic mode, right?"
