Change the axis type on a XY (Scatter) plot

This might have been asked before but I didn't find anything on the forums. I have a scatter plot chart with dates on the x axis, however when I try to change the scale, I get a series of numbers instead of dates as the axis is set as a Value axis.

How can I change the axis type so the scale will appear as a date instead of the series of numbers that Excel recognizes as dates?

You can format axis values exactly the same way you can format cell values.
Select the axis, go to menu Format / Axis (or the equivalent in the
formatting palette), select the Number tab, and select from the list the
date format you desire. Source cells and axis values can thus have different
formats.
